Vlakkenheuwel Boerdery, located in Swartland, in the South African province, commissioned a completely new pumping station to meet the requirements of the modern farm with big plans for expansion.

Vlakkenheuwel produces a wide variety of products including wheat, canola, grapes and they have recently started to produce almonds.

They require the installation of efficient, precise and sustainable irrigation with water and energy use in facilities where drip irrigation is mainly used. Their water sources are the river Berg and well water.

They hope to extend their new almond crop, and a new pumping station means they would be able to make optimum use of water and resources, permitting expansion.

  • Water conservation and accuracy are factors which must be taken into careful consideration.
  • To guarantee a more efficient use of water and irrigation.
  • Precise and efficient fertigation system from an energy point of view

ITC Solution

After studying the requirements, Agriplas, a distributor of ITC equipment in South Africa, proposed a system with 3 main lines, each one consisting of:

  • Its own Dostec AC 600l/h pump, an EC conductivity sensor, a pH sensor and a pressure sensor.
  • This is all connected to an ITC control which, together with some Gulf Radio receivers, allows the customer to supervise and control the whole irrigation system through the cloud manager.
  • The fertigation process is also supervised and controlled through the cloud manager and the ITC system informs the farmer about the EC data, the proportional flow, volume and dosing time.

Fertigation equipment from ITC facilitate very precise dosing and maximum quality and accuracy in water and fertiliser use, one of the main objectives of the Vlakkenheuwel team.
