Pivot Irrigation and Fertigation in Albacete

On February 6, 2025, we had the privilege of attending a highly insightful event on pivot irrigation and fertigation. The event was organized in collaboration with the Barrax Rural Association and key players in the agricultural technology sector. Held at the Barrax Hub, the event brought together agricultural professionals to discuss the challenges currently faced by farmers and innovative solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability in farming practices.

The day began with a warm welcome from the organizers, with an opening presentation by Mr. Jose Manuel Vázquez, President of the Barrax Rural Association, and Helena Cuartero, Spain Manager at Nelson Irrigation Corporation. Both highlighted the importance of continuous innovation in irrigation to tackle the challenges of the agricultural sector, especially in the context of climate change.

One of the highlights was the roundtable discussion on the current and future state of pivot irrigation in the region, moderated by Miguel Ángel Moreno, Director of the Department of Plant Production and Agricultural Technology at UCLM. The panel discussed the perspectives of pivot usage in the area, with participation from prominent companies such as RKD Pivot, Valley, Urapivot, Western, Otech, and Lindsay.

The event also featured key presentations, including Alberto Hernández from ITC Dosing Pumps, who shared insights on the impact of fertigation in optimizing pivot irrigation systems. His presentation was well-received, offering practical solutions to maximize crop yield through efficient fertilizer dosing.

The roundtable on new technologies and innovation in pivot irrigation was another highlight, focusing on the latest technological advancements revolutionizing irrigation, from more efficient systems to innovations integrating fertigation with irrigation systems.

Finally, Mr. Juan Francisco Rodenas Rubio, Head of the Rural Development and Agro-environmental Policies Service at the Provincial Delegation of Albacete, presented valuable information on available financial aid lines in Castilla-La Mancha, helping local farmers fund the modernization of their irrigation systems.

To close the day, attendees enjoyed a networking session over drinks, where distributors from the participating companies showcased their products and addressed individual queries, creating an excellent environment for networking.

In summary, the event was a great opportunity to discuss crucial topics surrounding pivot irrigation and fertigation. We are pleased to have been a part of this event and would like to thank all the speakers and participants for sharing their expertise and knowledge.
