Avocado cultivation in the Setúbal Peninsula

ITC  /   Agriculture  /   Avocado cultivation in the Setúbal Peninsula

Background

An important fruit producer is requesting a startup and installation project for a drip irrigation and fertigation system on 428 hectares of avocado cultivation in the Setúbal Peninsula (Portugal). The request is made to Magos Irrigation Systems, an ITC distributor in Portugal and a leading company in the sector with over 30 years of experience, renowned for installing drip irrigation systems in large agricultural projects.

The project is divided across three farms in different locations and sizes. The first one is at Herdade Do Mar, covering 198 hectares, the second at Herdade Do Montalvo, spanning 98 hectares, and the third at Herdade Da Mitrena, with an area of 132 hectares.

ITC's solution

The project includes the installation of three fertigation headers, each equipped with high-tech ITC components selected by Magos Irrigation Systems to ensure optimal water and nutrient supply for the cultivation.

Among the selected equipment are high-flow EFR dosing pumps, DOSTEC 50 membrane dosing pumps, and turbine agitators, all designed to ensure precise distribution of the necessary nutrients for the ‘optimal economic’ growth and development of avocados.

The chosen ITC equipment for each header includes:

  • 2 high-flow EFR dosing pumps
  • 5 DOSTEC 50 membrane dosing pumps
  • 7 turbine mixers
